Indeed, there is a low key "side project" create called:
PIANO OVERLORD that has been recorded sporadically with me alone and
with friends over the past two years. The first release is in form
of a 7" on Turntable Lab's: Money Studies label, followed shortly
by an e.p.....
Initially, the project started as a favor to repay Money Studies for
myself typically fucking up and losing the parts to remix my man:
Diplo's first 7" on the label. I thought about the possibilities
of just using various pianos, rhodes, wurlitzers, or any other kinds
of non synthesized keyboards and went forth. This allowed me electrically(the
old school way) and acoustically to imitate the sounds of guitars,
bass, synths, and whatever other instruments that aren't pianos just
accompanied by simple beats and percussion. from straight boom bap
to somewhat free jazz excursions. This is simple music that one doesn't
really need to place under a microscope to understand. When you hear
it, it is what it is. A restraint experiment for my usual onslaught
of editing and sample usage with Prefuse 73 to the overuse of various
instruments and voices heard in Savath y Savalas. The different agenda
and story behind the forthcoming full length and what it has become.
The full length with a title t.b.a. will be released on Chocolate
Industries early next year. This is a different story, a more collaborative
effort, and all live instrumentation with the exception of a couple
joints....
This is a meditative lament and sometimes rugged story of the "island
immigrant", for lack of better description. Stylistically it
moves all over the place but tells a story of a difficult and tragic
movement of what is commonly swept under the rug by our government
and has been fueled more by constant new laws set in Washington to
oppress and keep this subject matter closed off for any hope of desperate
individuals finding a better life in the United States of America
(the question if there is hope here is in the eye of the beholder
and the human willing to take that movement)... All artistic proceeds
will be placed in the hands of certain relief funds, which may seem
somewhat insignifigant in the state of today's underground music industry
economically, but it's a start and the least we can do with our creativity
to help our brothers and sisters who are placed with a gigantic overpowering
force of rejection, isolationism, non oppourtunity or choice. Anyway,
i aimed for election time for this to be released but i'm not the
quickest or effecient to turn things in on time other than music.
My emphasis is this; if this project interest you then buy the record.
Do not steal the music from some bitch website because you're only
contributing to the problem - i would also emphasize in not downloading
anything unless you plan to pay for it because you are only stealing
from the artists that you so call - "respect".
More on this as it evolves....
