THE GASLAMP KILLER+VOICESVOICES+PREFUSE73(fulleffectmode))

I noticed that our tour was “semi” announced today but I’ll announce it. Here it is: Jan/Feb 2010 - GLK will be killing the night as he always does. “VoicesVoices” will be supporting their: Manimal Vinyl E.P. around that time and playing the drums really hard… PREFUSE73 will be playing in “full band mode” for the first time in awhile. I’m happy to have help jumping from instrument to instrument once again. VoicesVoice’s ladies are in the P73 band line up as well - YA!! I’ll be helping them from the side as well during their set. I’ll post up dates asap. I hope you come out and have fun.

Voices x 2 = Hells Yes….

Via Pitchfork:

VOICEsVOICEs, the L.A. duo of Jenean Farris and Nico Turner, have a new EP out, titled Origins, that’s produced by Prefuse 73’s Guillermo Scott Herren. Herren’s experimental fingerprints are all over this track, “Flulyk Visions”, with it’s droning atmospherics and vocals looped and inverted almost beyond recognition. VOICEsVOICEs will be touring Europe next month with Hope Sandoval and Brightblack Morning Light (for whom they’ll sub as a backing band). Origins is out in January via Manimal Vinyl.

from GSH:
Several months ago, I didn’t think that a band I randomly worked with and became close friends with would come through with something that translated to more than maybe the 3 of us and my friends around while we were working so soon. I suppose that “droning atmospherics and vocals looped and inverted almost beyond recognition” worked out in their favor. I just produced the music, I didn’t make the music or tell BrightBlackMorningLight to make them their band and go on a full Euro tour. So, I can’t express to them how proud I am of them and I give them all the love + support that I can! We still have an album to finish and I’m sure this is only the start of their greatness…

TOURING the quiet way… From swimming pools to harbors.

PREFUSE 73 wants to say THANK YOU so much for coming to our scattered shows around the world over the past couple of months. I/we apologize for all the last minute changes that would pop up BUT for the most part, it has been such a fun group of shows and I especially want to shout Boston out for inviting us to launch their series at: the Institute of Contemporary Arts. - It was a very beautiful place and a great, positive crowd.
(everyone at every show has been amazing!)

OK, we are off to Japan to play some_ come back for a few shows here and then fly away for our South American tour. Then come back to do a full U.S. tour with 2 acts that will not disappoint. - More details on all of that soon. hmmmm. PEACE FOR NOW.———- HAPPY BDAY TO MY SON!!!!

“VOICESVOICES” admit to smuggling contraband “post” recording with: Guillermo S. Herren

I recently realized that I work with people and turn them into “felons”… read the sweet quote below and judge for yourself how two “seemingly” sweet young girls can take a turn for THE WORST!!!
Despite their behavior, I will say w/o any favoritism(I don’t like criminals) that this E.P. is fucking amazing. These girls were PRO - they left me alone when I worked opposed to breathing on me - then would go straight to work when we needed to track/record.. They drank terrible beer, smoked weird cigarettes, ate the most disgusting fucking food ever and left with some amazing songs. I’ve never heard any “live” drums come out of this place “Banging” so hard… Damn girls.?!#?

LA’s VoicesVoices played their first show back in Los Angeles last night at Spaceland since returning from New York City where they spent two weeks recording with Guillermo Scott Herren a.k.a Prefuse 73.

When I read that VoicesVoices recorded with Prefuse 73 in NYC, I got pretty excited, I can’t think of a better combo. So to fulfill my own personal curiosity of how the recording went, I pushed the band for a comment.

Recording was amazing! For two weeks Guillermo slept on the couch, and he gave us his bed. We laid down some new vocals and reworked some of the songs on from our Sounds Outside EP. They are pretty much all new songs now, along with a couple brand new songs we recently wrote. Guillermo worked like a mad-man mixing and recording, and he’s just the coolest, most down-to-earth, making-it-happen kinda guy. The songs sound great, and we can’t wait for it to be released on Manimal Vinyl around late August - or September. We fell in love with NY and can’t wait to go back on work on the full length. But we just can’t afford $10 packs of cigarettes in NY, so we’ll probably be smuggling them across the american-canadian border.

That’s Nico recording vocals and probably the one who is the most dangerous… In this photo, my mood is “intimidated”.

“Savath y Savalas” updatessss… super super nice.

1. We are recording the new record NOW.

2. A “StonesThrow” fan club 7″ was released called: “MASIA“. One song: “Masia” - is a beautiful song Eva wrote about her favorite spot at home. The other song is an instrumental that I wrote for: “José Gonzalez” for his record. If not his proper “record” - then it will end up with José and I together at some point.. So, here it is w/o José.

3. We are doing an instrumental version E.P. of “La Llama”… It’s been something we’ve been working on in the meantime and I’d say the word “Dub Version” but I don’t want to say that word and it set up an expectation of something it’s not. I guess I’m referring to the old school idea of dub opposed to anything they call “dub step”/etc… More like old “Adrian Sherwood” record. Here we are faded together in London, I look so retarded because this dude is one of those cats I can really consider a hero - especially since he was making music when I was an infant that I still can’t figure out.

4. Back to = Savath y Savalas

5. Thanks to the NICE reviews and press that WE would have never expected for this: “La Llama” album. I’d like to kindly reiterate that “Savath y Savalas” is a “group” of people. Yes, Guillermo started it aimlessly in 98(?uggh) and hooked up what it is to this moment alongside Eva in 2002. So, the photos of Guillermo standing alone like a douche bag for a project 11 years after the fact, in a band rooted with 3 people. Please pretend Eva and Roberto are next to him too. It’s all about Eva anyway.

One way to define psychedelia is as pop engulfed in seemingly extraneous but
richly evocative noises. Creaks, pings, birdcalls, clarinets, rustles,
whooshes, echoes and all sorts of other sonic flotsam surround simple
melodies and quietly picked acoustic guitars on “La Llama” (Stones Throw).
It’s the fourth album by Savath & Savalas, one of the projects of Guillermo
Scott Herren, the Catalan-rooted producer who’s better known for making
music as Prefuse 73. Savath & Savalas is his Latin-alternative
project, with the breathy, bemused lead vocals of Eva Puyuelo Muns at the
center. She sings in Spanish about pathways, journeys, dreams and curative
kisses as the music drifts between lullaby and incantation, awash in
distractions and apparitions.

6. Lots of good music coming. Stay Close_ Apropa’t.

I got this E.P. out that I recently discovered was released…

Bon Dia_

I was looking up the actual date for when the e.p. following up: “Everything She Touched Turned Ampexian” was dropping. -Just like the previous Prefuse 73 L.P. - I found out a week after the fact that “the Forest of Oversensitivity” E.P. had dropped as well. So, if you’re into copping a few different “songs” from the full length’s residue(although recorded before the full length) I’d recommend that buying the vinyl version is what I would do. The artwork(painting) for this cover is so beautiful to me that it actually made me change the e.p.’s title to match the overall feeling when all was finished. That is, if you are someone who sees a physical 12×12 format a valid form of artwork worth buying.

Either way, if you want it - you can get it at places that sell vinyl… Such as Turntable Lab.

Most importantly, did I mention that “Grizzly Bear” have a video where their heads explode? It is visually scientific and amazing. OH!! B.T.W. - Yes I do sell weed again and you can find me working at the empanada spot on 2nd Ave. during the daytime ONLY.

Nonetheless, turn off the T.V. and work on what you love.
PeacePeacePeace.. GSH.
